HOW THE COVID-19 CHANGED MY GOAL

The corona virus which started late 2019 came as a surprise to everyone globally and no one expected it to have such an impact in all part of human life and sectors of the world ranging from the financial sector to the entertainment industry.

I just resigned my job as a teacher from a high school I taught for four months (resigned December 2019) so as to plan a new step into the following year 2020, I had the ambition to fulfill a dream which is either going to music school for six month or one year and also start a business of mine in the agricultural sector. Then boom covid-19 came but as at early 2020 between January and March it wasn’t that serious.

I decided to travel to my hometown with my mom so as to see my grandfather while it would also be the first time I am paying a visit to my hometown. On the 27th of March 2020, I travelled to my hometown with my mother and three days later we got the news that the Federal Government has placed a compulsory Lockdown in the country which means no inter-state movement and also a limited time to move within each community. Since we would be spending beyond the stipulated time there, my grandfather decided to introduce me into farming.

My mom and I never knew that the lockdown would take about 3-4months before it would be relaxed because we only planned for few days and I didn’t even go with enough clothing’s that will last me for the long lockdown.

I got few plots of land from my grandfather and then I started my journey as a farmer in the month of April. I started out by planting Oranges (Navelina Variety) about 120 stands while I also helped my dad start his own citrus farm of about 350-400 stands. I got to know about cucumber farm, watermelon, tomatoes, chili pepper etc.

I also followed my grandfather to his farm and also had to learn about the palm tree cultivation while I visited a mill where palm oil is been processed.

My aim in life wasn’t to be a farmer but an accomplished writer and also a musician while I involve in other educational practices.

After the relaxing of the lockdown by the government, I could have followed my mother back home but I couldn’t because of my citrus plantation and that made me stay permanently in my hometown.

The truth is just as the corona virus disrupted some part of our daily life and plans; it was a blessing to me though. I had my own first investment due to the lockdown imposed by the government and I also got to take a class on graphic designing while in my hometown.

The virus has caused a lot of death, pain, sadness and sorrows in some part of the world which is a very sad thing. I commiserate with those who lost one person or the other during the pandemic while I also fault those who used the pandemic as a means to increase the price of their product when they were supposed to consider the fact that most jobs were lost during the pandemic and everyone had to live on the little they have.

Also to some companies that had to contribute billions to the government so as to fight the virus while they had to lay off more than 50% of their staff due to the fact that they couldn’t pay salaries.

The covid-19 only changed when I am to pursue my goals which I have started pursuing and won’t stop till I achieve it all.

Together, we can achieve great things and lets join hands together to eradicate the world of the corona virus.
